Our Community Helpers unit is officially underway! Over the next 3 weeks we will be learning about the people in our community and why they are important. We will begin this unit with a study on goods and services and how/why we use money to purchase these things. On September 13th we will try our hand at exchanging our human resources for wages by selling lemonade to our peers here at Brighten. This will count as one of Kindergarten's community projects as well. We will wrap up our unit on September 20th with an in house field trip in which we will have the opportunity to meet and question some of the important people in our community. Please read below and discuss with your child. Respond with what you know or learned. GOODS: A GOOD IS SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN USE, AND HOLD IN YOUR HAND. EXAMPLE- BUY CLOTHES SERVICES: A SERVICE IS SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE DOES FOR YOU. EXAMPLE-GETTING A HAIRCUT Critical Thinking- What do people earn in return for their goods or services? Our 7 C for the month of August was culture. We talked about how culture was a fancy word for our Brighten family and the way we do things here at the Academy. We spent time getting to know one another, making eye contact with those that are speaking and began to understand what it means to value the people around us. Speak with your child about culture and report back on how he/she is helping to make Brighten a better place. You are never too young to make a difference!
